I don't know why anyone would want to get their cat high on drugs. Is the life they lead so miserable that they have to subject their poor defenseless cat to the hell as well?? This is cruelity to animals in the mose awfull sence and the owner of that cat should be proscuted to the fullest extent of the law!!!

...idiots.
Do you believe everything you read in the National Enquirer as well? Of course the RSPCA won't investigate -there's no truth to the story OR the photo.

It would be different if it was pot, but crack. it is a wonder that cat is still functioning. think of the damgage it does to humans. on cats it must be 20 times worse.

What the hell are all you people bitching about, so what if he want's to get his cat high. You people want to clutter up our prison system with "cat offenders" when there are real criminals out there. I have seen more response for this crackhead cat than I have ever seen for homeless people crackheads. Mind your own god damn business.

So.. will all the researchers that addict many MILLIONS of animals every year to tobacco, alcohol, heroine, cocaine and crack, as well as the countless millions of pharmaceutical preparations, will they also be jailed, do they make you sick? Is it any different because it is "in the name of science" (what a fraud), its in the name of dollars, or entertainment, or personal desire whatever... I'm not saying its right or justified, i'm saying focus attention where attention is due. When you take that tylenol, or cigarette, or other pharmaceutical preparation, you are funding much worse activities than this.

Think about that, and then do something about that.

As sick as feeding helpless cats cocaine would indeed be, I'm amazed so few people managed to pick out a few key words...

"according to the description in the UK’s <b>The Sun</b> <i>tabloid</i>."
Itchmo's sole "Source: <b><i>The Sun</i></b>"

... that make me think maybe the RSPCA has a point about the "lack of [reliable] evidence." Particularly since tabloids do tend to have a well-known penchant for doctoring photos and pulling stories out of their rears. Given the webcam-esque, extreme jpeg blurriness, lack of actual identifiable facial features... I'd have to say that is pretty poor evidence, actually. They can't even identify their supposed "sources" by name.
If some stranger showed up with a tabloid picture like that clutched in their hand and demanded access to your house, yammering about drugs and harm to animals, I'm sure you'd be perfectly happy to let them into your house with your pets and children, too. Uh-huh.

So here's the response from the RSPCA:

Thank you for your enquiry regarding a recently released mobile phone photograph of an alleged animal welfare incident.

The RSPCA considers that the photograph shown to us by a tabloid newspaper is insufficient to warrant an investigation as the person shown in the photograph cannot be clearly identified.

The RSPCA always asks anyone who has witnessed an incident concerning animal welfare to report the matter to us directly via our 24 hour National Cruelty and Advice Line 0870 5555 999.

Thank you for contacting the Society with your concerns.

Kind regards
RSPCA Enquiries Service

So he can't be clearly identified. So what? As someone actually reported this, why not follow up on it? Knock on the door and see if it's true. How hard is that? That's what our animal cops do. Sometimes they find something, sometimes they don't. No one sues them for trying.

I took the email address Lynn found for EMI and emailed them. I'm posting it here to be used as a form letter for anyone wishing to contact EMI about this:

----------------------------------------

Subject: Pete Doherty

Dear EMI,

I was upset to view this article:

http://www.itchmo.com/rockers-cat-forced-to-smoke-crack-cocaine-2726#more-2726

I just want you guys to know that this is so revolting that until EMI announces that Babyshambles and Pete Doherty are no longer on their roster or on the roster of any EMI sublabel, I must in good conscience refrain from buying material from EMI. Yes, that means even if it's an artist I like and respect.

It's one thing to do drugs. It's bizarre and demented to force feed drugs to pets for shits and giggles, and we all need to send a zero-tolerance level by not associating with these sickos and anyone who works with them.

Should EMI drop Babyshamles/Pete Doherty, I would be happy to continue buying works of art released under EMI and its sublabels.

Respectfully yours,
Your name

-------------------------------------

This would be great for anyone to send, including musicians.

In order to send in (email) an enquiry to the RSPCA, you need to create a MyRSPCA account. Which I did. This is what I wrote them:

As I was reading Itchmo.com (pet newswire out of Seattle), I was shocked and upset to read this particular article:

http://www.itchmo.com/rockers-cat-forced-to-smoke-crack-cocaine-2726#more-2726

The comment regarding the RSPCA was that there was not enough evidence to investigate. Is the photograph included with the article not enough evidence? Here in Canada, a phone call from someone to the humane society is enough for an investigation. I sincerely hope that this is a disturbing enough story for a second thought about whether or not to go ahead. This is a very sick individual with a terrible drug problem who is taking every other form of life down with him. Please do something about this.

Hopefully, they will take note that they're in the limelight. In a real bad way. Next up, the record label.
