Schnuck’s Cat and Dog Food Recall Expansion

UPDATE: Menu Foods expands they recall to include dozens of new brands in US and Canada. Schnuck’s is included in that list.

Schnuck’s is recalling additional foods not on the Menu Foods recall list (as of 4:45pm Pacific) due to melamine. Schnucks indicates that Menu Foods has expanded their recall, yet again. We just read about PetSmart’s multi-brand recall expansion.

This expansion covers Schnucks Select Canned Dog and Cat Food.

We repeat our advice to avoid entire brands of food, not just UPCs. due to patterns of expanding recalls.

Full list after the jump.

Schnucks and Logli customers in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi are asked to check for the following Schnucks pet food products with a sell-by date between Nov/08/09 and Mar/07/10:

Gosh I’ve forgotten now, DID Menu Foods {or Any-one Else for That matter?} RECALL Anything AFTER the Rice
“proteins” flour, concentrates, concentrates ground Into flours etc., were found to be the Latest product/ingredients Contaminated??? Did They Get REcalled????
    I just don’t remember THAT one YET! {sigh}

I need a “play board” here! :-P Isn’t that what they are called?
    Scheeesch…

  4. Beth says:

From what I have been reading. the Chinese have been adding melamine to inhance the “protein readings” of their various glutens and proteins for quite some time. They say that this is “customary” and “many” are adding this. It increases the price that they can get for their products.
Why must we buy these products from China anyway? Our farmers are being paid $$$ by the US government to allow their fields to be left barren. America has some of the most beautiful and healthy wheat and corn fields…Why? do we have to purchase from a source that ADMITS to adding melamine for years……….??
Is there any word from the CDC or FDA that melamine could possibly be a carcinogen?

  5. Steve says:

Life in Prison for these guys. I’ve had it with this.

  6. Mia says:

Never ends .. the nightmare continues.. global economy indeed. Not at the high price of our lives or our pets!

  7. Deb G. says:

Steve, I say life in prison eating pork w/melamine, chicken w/melamine and a side of recalled petfood.

Have they gotten any results on all other gluten/proteins they are testing? What about corn gluten? Since it was responsible for pet deaths in So. Africa you would think we would have heard something by now. I know people feeding dry w/corn gluten still. I went to a local feed store today to try and find something to feed our chickens (since I don’t even trust the organic I was feeding) and the owner was not aware of any other issue besides the wheat gluten. I told him he better check out Itchmo to get the latest. He’s been watching TV. I told him we’ll all be dead before they start reporting the real deal. Again, thank you Itchmo for keeping us informed so we can give the TV viewers a fighting chance.

  8. maddy says:

No - the rice flours were not recalled or tested other than 4 natural balance cans- what about the rest with rice flour or mislabeled or cross contaminated Natural Balance?

Potato protein in Pet Promise not touched on.

No other recalls or testing of crosscontamination for runs of products immediately following contaminated. Today recalls on some cross contamination for wet - and Castor and pollux who was recalled on ultramix cans cross contaminated are now testing for melamine!!!!
Not much faith in others if they took no initiative to so so and if they are going by their tests alone which have proved incorrect for some brands after FDA second test. And what about cross contaminating the organic wet?

What about Castor and Pollux dry tests for cross contaminationat C.J. foods -(Blue Buffalo) Some Dry foods contain RPC from China

  9. maddy says:

P.S. Why is Castor and Pollux now testing for melamine when they tell you on the site and over the phone that they have tested and it is free from melamine?

  10. Anna says:

Guess who controls the Melamine business? Melamine process technologies can be licensed from DSM, BASF, …

Would that be the same BASF that controls Pet Vitamins and Humans ones too?

Would that be the same BASF that was core of IG Farben.

That would be the same people, you know, the Zyklon B people, they could care less then and they care now about exploitation and control… they always had the cooperation of of the Bush family, so know where the power trail into this deadly business leads…

  11. DONNA says:

WE’RE IMPORTING FROM CHINA BECAUSE IT COSTS ‘TOO MUCH’ TO CONVERT OUR FACTORIES THAT PROCESSS WHEAT TO ENABLE THEM TO MAKE THE GLUTEN THAT WE IMPORT. IT’S A MONEY GAME AND AS USUAL BEINGS ARE PAYING WITH THEIR LIVES…IN THIS CASE IT’S OUR BELOVED COMPANION ANIMALS; WONDER IF WE’LL WILL BE NEXT?

I can’t attest to the accuracy of this information but what I have been hearing is that we, the United States, grow most of the wheat that is then shipped out to other countries. It has a bit to do with artifical sweetners. In the US we use corn based sweetners but in Europe, and many other countries, they use healthier wheat based sweetners. It’s expensive to process the wheat here so it’s sent out, processed for fractions of the cost and then the gluten that they have little use for is purchased back by companies in the US all for cheaper than we can make it ourselves. I don’t know as much about the corn products but I do know that we process more of that here as that’s where most of our lysine comes from. It seems that maybe we should process more of our own wheat and pass the cost on to the consumers who now understand the risks of cheap food. It also seems that maybe that would get us away from all of this horrible corn syrup that’s making Americans so sick. But on the other hand, greed is greed and if it’s going on in China you can bet it’s going on here. Menu foods is a perfect example of corporate greed in America.

    Thanks Anna,

Interesting information on who controls the melamine and who backs them.

yes, previous post is accurate, bush ties, is this a divert tactic, this pet trauma? used to be in a ‘war’ knock out the other guys communications center first and cause kaos and loss of control. forces dwindle and take control when they are going though changes. why does bush not care about what he does to other people? why is BASF the maker of the gas chambers in jewish killings, still around? i’m not even jewish but i want them out of business. but now you have alliances of top wealthy jews and bush’s and saudi’s, bin ladens. wealth and NEW PROJECT FOR AMERICAn Century takes all precident. we, the unwealthy don’t matter. if we exercised organization, watch out. do you know how they support each others casues? we betray one another for a simple job position, or ego mannuever, never mind survival of the good hearted peoples, no one has any soul, any spunk, any backbone, now intelligence and spiritua;lity.

Would it bepossible for itchmo to list new recalls in a different color on thier website (red-last 5 days yellow last ten green old news). I own a pet store in Oregon and am handing out buisness cards with itchmos address, as it is one of my primary referances. I just thought it might be helpful to the consumer to see what is new on the recall list. Thank you itchmo for helping me get bad food off the shelf. I tried to share your address with a vet in my mall, and she informed me in a very snarky way that her info wascertainly more up to date than mine. I have told them about the updates in a largepartdo to your website. thank you….

According to articles I read via itchmo, there are four wheat gluten factories remaining in business in the US. They are happy to sell you wheat gluten. They have been struggling to stay in business.

It is the cheap-$%^&* pet food makers who do not want to pay 20 percent more for American wheat gluten. There is NO SHORTAGE OF AMERICAN WHEAT GLUTEN

Yes, American wheat gluten only costs 20 percent more, despite the fact it is made with clean, tested American water by american workers who make more than a dollar an hour and do not live in a dictatorship where you can be hauled off to a labor camp if you have a bible class in your home.

Wheat gluten is only a part of the cost of a can of cat food, so using American wheat gluten would not even raise the price of a can of cat food by 20 percent. It would be pennies on the can.

The *&^!*# american pet food resellers - the brand names printed on the labels - are still charging us American prices for pet food containing Chinese price wheat gluten.

And hiding the fact they are slipping us Chinese goods.

This isnt NAFTA or world trade. This is lying labels.

I don’t care if someone sells Chinese junk. I want it on the label so I can know how much I am being ripped orff on price, and quality, and I can choose not to buy it.

I am so over the American pet food industry

  22. Laura says:

I have found this web site to be the best communication for the recall. I have forwarded it to all.
And why, as we all ask, does the price of gluten become more important than the price of the death of our pet companions. And why have we not heard from Bush about all this mess? At least a quick “I’m sorry” speech for importing cotaminated products from another country. Not to mention the contamination to our food source. Let’s get back to producing our own products…the higher costs far outweigh the unacceptable costs to our loyal and trusting pet companions.

  23. Leslie Davison says:

does anyone know about the pet products, FirstMate & Eaglepack?
can you please advise on the status
    thank you kindly
