Scientists Create New Crossbreed of Cat and Dog
According to a UCLA press release, their researchers have created a crossbreed of cat and a dog. Apparently, after 6 years of development, the doctors at UCLA’s biology department has created a new species (picture at right). Does this mean the end of having to select between a cat and a dog?
“This development represents a huge leap forward in genetics,” said Dr. Brian McDowell, the professor that headed the research team of 3 scientists. The new female animal, nicknamed “Cag” does not yet have a species designation and it is not known if it can reproduce. Dr. McDowell said the team was working on a male version, to be named “Dat”. “We still have lots of unknowns,” he said.
Cag, born on May 12, 2005, was described as having the temperament of both cat and dog. Described as “aloof, yet totally loyal”, she uses a litter-box, yet chases tennis balls and understands more than a dozen commands. She also has the ability to land on her feet when dropped.
UCLA is looking to commercially develop this animal as a potential pet in the next 5 years. World peace is clearly at hand. Who will be the first celeb to have a “cag” in her purse?
More information after the jump.

Funny… For the moment I asked myself “is this for real?”, then I remembered it was April 1st.

Thinking the story was real at first, my initial thought was that scientists had created a new species which looks just like Mr. Winkle.

Uh! When all the homeless cats and dogs in the U.S. have safe homes, then maybe … until then, we hardly need more pets that people can buy for big bucks and as a status symbol, instead of more responsibly adopting pets who need homes.

Arrrrgh. Itchmo, you almost got me. Personally, I prefer the term “dat” over “cag”…

Actually, it says right after the “jump” - “Gotcha! Happy April Fool’s!” However, I was so fascinated by the story (before I did the jump) that I had already emailed the info to 3 people. Then I had to email them back to tell them I had been duped! I had just asked my son not to play any jokes on me because I am so gullible!

One of the striking differences between a cat and a lie is that a cat has only nine lives.

So it does its business discretely in the litterbox, walks off, then comes back to dig it up and run around the house with it right?

This is hilarious! Scared the daylights out of me at first. Thank God it was only a joke. Unfortunately, this might give some sicko scientists ideas.
