Yes, I have made the same observation about Nutro not selling. (I have a personal interest since my cats ate it and now have health problems, although are still living reasonably good lives, unlike many others.) The only store where I shop that still carries Nutro is practically giving it away now. Oh, yeah! Vote with your money, people.

This legislation is not enough, but it is a start.

I suppose this is progress but too little too late for me. I do not feel this is enough to do. Contaminated food should be tested before it is distributed to the public at all. Too many animals and people can get ill before it is even reported. I feel they should have on sight testing done at all places before it is distributed any where. How many people and pets can get ill before these companies even realize that there is something wrong with the product? Lettuce from California was distributed all over the US before they realized that it was contaminated. People and pets can get ill and die before this twenty four hour period that needs to be reported. Something needs to be done before this point!
Of course the expense of testing the products would cost these companies too much money but after all they guarantee their products so they are responsible to give us good quality products before they are put on the grocery shelves. I am just sick of all the recalls!

TALK TO THE HAND! Yea, sure........returned our Nutro Chicken Chunks and gravy in March 2007 for a cash refund to Petco after being advised to switch to it from Natural Balance a few weeks earlier, (another poison food) . Won't touch Nutro with a 10 foot pole ever again, not to mention all the other commercial garbage-trash out there. Recalls are too late because that is AFTER the product has been sold, consumed and sitting on shelves nationwide or even WORLDWIDE.

I agree with both of you. I pray things will be different but I have no faith that it will be. The mind set has to change at the top if people or our beloved pets are going to be protected. Ask congrsss for 10 millon & use 8 millon for bonus for the top people doesn't seem like much of a change, imo. Lets not forget what they have been doing with the drugs too. Imo they should have been fired instead of a bonus for a job badly done imo.

Speaking of Nutro. I was at Petsmart over the weekend and asked them how their pet food sales were going. They said their Science Diet and Iams sales had rebounded and Blue Buffalo has reintroduced their wet food which seems to moving at a pretty good clip. But they have so much overstock of Nutro they have stopped getting in new product. No one is buying it.

Oh so sorry to hear this....not!

I am glad to see this but pardon me if Im a bit jaded. This part "Unsafe products will be tracked and taken out from the supply chain at faster rates" kind of gets me. I think perhaps if Menu Foods and Nutro and other companies had been more willing to listen to the complaints they were already getting, the tainted food could have been taken out of the supply chain extremely fast. It was their unwillingness to take heed to the warnings they were getting because their almighty dollar was more important to them. If you have companies that dont care about anything but their profit they will find some loophole and all the rules and regs wont mean anything.

The only problem we have is the attitude of the FDA which is to cover the butts of big biz & everyone else can go to hell. No matter how much legislation is passed, we need to get some people in there who actually care about the health & welfare of all living things, not just those who grease their palms. IMO, the biggest problem we have are the people in charge. Giving them more power is great but they have to want to do something.

I just have little faith left in any of these agencies to do the right thing.

This is an important first step of a long journey. We still have to remain vocal. Squeaky wheels get oiled!!!

The way this recall was handled was just as deadly as the contaminant in the food (IMO)!!!
