Here is a good one. The guy that kidnapped the dog, turned out to be on the run from California for embezzlement. He was extradited back to California.
Recently, he was seen at a local Night club back in
Oregon laughing it up with a bunch of girls. He was
seen by the owner of the dog he kidnapped at the
same bar.

How did you go about getting the police to make the man return the dog?

A homeless drug addict gave my husband I a dog 4 months ago. We never heard from her again until last weekend when she stole him back. The dog is licensed in our name, but he police won't do anything. All I have been told I can do is file a Civil Suit for the cost of his care.

LUCKY our six year old Boston Terrier likes to escape. She is an escape artist going over under and thru fences and doors. During her excursions she has been dog napped 4 times over the past four years.

Once she and COKIE our 4 year old Labchow were let loose 40 miles from where we stay in another state without their collars or tags. We think that they were let loose after whoever had them read the tags that said they micro-chips. The people that found them took them to a vet and got in touch with us. A friend got her chip dog three month after it disappeared.

Another time she was sold for drugs. Another time some kids conspired to keep LUCKY and then a father wanted to
keep her for his kids. Each of these three times we put up 200 or more reward posters in about a 20 square block area. Also a car window window was broken and COKIE chased those people off.

my mailbox is a flap in my door and i even rigged( made a closed locked box on the inside the mail falls into) that so absolutely no one can open that flap and even see into my house let alone stuff something unsavory through the flap my cats could get at.( i actually thought of that specifically and immediately sealed the flap off). people are deranged and capable of absolutely anything whether you have a fence or not. i always arrange things - my saftey and the safety of ' the ladies'-while viewing other humans in the worst possible light.

everyone knows their own situation best. there's no way i could ever let my cats out or leave a dog in my non- existant yard- i live in an urban environment. that doesn't mean their are not some places on earth you can do these things and still be considered responsible. it just seems however people are getting increasingly destructive. i find it impossible to trust humans to respect me and mine.

????

Am I supposed to feel alarmed because call me names? Are you imagining that there are possible legal consequences to the fact that I didn't immediately say, "Oh, yes, I'm completely wrong and terrible person, it's <i>good</i> that Nora leave Rufus (a dog whom <i>she</i> claims is vicious) unsupervised in her yard all day while she's at work?"

Time for you to grow up and start taking responsibility for your own actions (and comments), Nora.

Lis,you are very judgemental and you really have no idea WHAT I have chose to do about it. You are not a nice person and I don't appreciate your stupid and uninformed judgements and comments about my dogs. Worry about your own issues, you apparently have many.

Nora, a vicious dog outside in the yard unsupervised is an additional problem, not a solution. Consider the problem of a kid deciding to come into your yard, for instance.

And if someone thinks they can make a profit by stealing your dog, they'll find a way--drugged meat, for instance.

The child day care may have big windows overlooking your yard, but they're watching the kids, not your dog.

The police traffic will help only if the police happen to be there when someone decides to steal or harm your dog.

I call your worry "self-indulgent" because you chose to make a point of it in public, but are in fact doing something that's quite dangerous for your dog, and don't plan to change it.

Please be careful leaving any dog unattended. I remember reading on a German Shepherd website a few months ago that even schutzhund dogs are at risk of being stolen, because they are worth a lot of money. If someone wants a dog bad enough, they have ways of getting them even if they are trained protection dogs.

We have German Shepherds, a 6' cyclone fence with privacy slats, and our gates are locked. You wouldn't want better guard dogs. However, the neighbor's kids felt it would be fun to jump off their garage roof into our locked yard one day when we weren't home. Our dogs love kids, but these were people jumping into our yard! Our dogs were safely inside, but the police gave these kids an earful when our other neighbor caught them. If our dogs would've been out and bit these little monsters, they would've been deemed 'vicious.'

My main point, please watch your pets at all times. This world is just way too crazy.

Unfortunately, many more pets are killed in house fires than struck by lightening. If lightening is a concern, the fence could be wood. My pets are all inside. The thought of a fire freaks me out. But, sometimes there are reasons inside all day doesn't work.

Nora, I am glad Rufus is behind a fence and not on a chain. A double fence would also protect any child that may wander from the daycare and stick their fingers through the fence.

Not to scare you but I have heard of a case where someone came home and found all the dogs dead. Lightning struck the chain link fence. Too many strange things can happen when you are not home. Mine are always in their crates when I am out.

Lis, you and your self indulgent worry theory sucks. I also have a downright vicious male Australian blue heeler who will not let ANYONE near the fence and and we have a sign "Beware of Dog". The gates are all padlocked and we are right behind a Child Daycare with huge windows that overlook our front yard and lots of police traffic.......If you think that I am being SELF INDULGENT by worrying about my dog, you obviously have inner personal issues of your own that YOU need to deal with. Everyone else, thank you so much for the kind advice, I really appreciate it.
