I work as an Architectural Drafter here in NM. One of the projects I am currently working on is an Animal Shelter for Los Alamos County, yes THAT Los Alamos. The county has a new mandate that all county facilities achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Enviromental Design) Silver. Basically, they have gone green. So even my little no-frills animal shelter is going to be a nifty little green building.

Lynne,

No, it's not a no-kill shelter. I found an announcement of the opening at http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0oGkjQc0zRHhdAAhe5XNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE5Y3ZzdjVnBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMgRjb2xvA3NrMQR2dGlkA1BSMDExXzgxBGwDV1Mx/SIG=137557elo/EXP=1194730652/**http%3a//www.dallascityhall.com/code_compliance/Downloads/DAS_grand_opening_Oct20.pdf
which states the previous adoption rate is 3% and that the only way to reduce kill rates is to spay and neuter. So, clearly they're not no-kill now, and while spay/neuter is important, I really doubt that spay/neuter itself would get a shelter even close to a no-kill status.
