What a wonderful, touching story! Ken Kemper was obviously a very kind and loving individual, and a friend to all animals. The world can (and should) learn much from him.

Thank you, Lynn, for the terrific link to CNN's coverage of the story! Here's a link as well to the original piece which ran in the Hagerstown (MD) Herald-Mail, where the dogs now live with their kind caretaker, Roy Grady. The article by reporter Dan Dearth contains much better, more in-depth coverage of the story than the wire services do, and includes photos of the late Mr. Kemper and his then-SIX dogs in 2002, as well as its own video piece:

God Bless the memory of Ken Kemper, and a long, healthy, happy, joyful, love-filled life to Buckshot, Katie and Obu-Jet!

Spaghetti and meatballs once a week shouldn't hurt...it's a treat! As long as it's not their every day diet...Everything in moderation, even with pets....but the jury's out on the garlic. It is safer for dogs than cats though.

There's a video on CNN today that shows the caretaker, who seems like a nice guy who genuinely loves the animals.

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/offbeat/2008/01/01/ashminov.md.rich.dogs.whag

Furmom, that's a wonderful idea [caninetarianism]. I know that there was also an administrator named in the will to oversee the caretaker. With that kind of thorough thinking I'm wondering if perhaps the decedent made provisions for the funds after the dogs died [to be directed to a charity for animals].

Wonder how Lenora Helmsley's "Trouble" is faring.

Gives a new definition to the term "Lucky dogs". I'm a bit surprised though that these dogs would act just like any other dog. With their wealth, I should think they might look in to operating a charity for less fortunate dogs. They could make history leaving a legacy of caninetarianism.

So great to read about dogs being cared for, instead of some of the tragic abuse and neglect stories from the past year.

I am very glad to see these dogs taken care of! Wonderful story. I do hope the spaghetti doesn't have onions in it. I've given spaghetti to my dogs, but I just make sure there is nothing in it that is on the "do not give to dogs list". I've read there is some debate based on the amount of garlic given to dogs....but I would opt not to give to mine to be on the safe side.

I wish these dogs a happy and long life!

Happy New Year!

"Garlic Bread"?!! I thought garlic was deadly for dogs. Another thing, tho' human graded (which is wonderful), doesn't this type of diet make these dogs fat hence unhealthy for them?
