One one time I put little velcro bandanas on my cats. One sulked the other one went wild. After getting it off him (and almost losing a couple of fingers in the process) we’ve all agreed that treats are fine, costumes are not.

for me it’s a serious religious holiday- and this year partiucularly poignant because i lost 4 of my cats.
now that people are discouraged from public displays of celebrating christmas they seem to have intensified their public celebrations of halloween as if it wasn’t also an even more ancient religious holy day.or maybe it’s just marketed more now.
but dressing up your pet is ok. you might as well mock death- it sure as hell is mocking you.
2catmom- i think cats prefer to dress up as kings, queens, empresses , lions and other regal beings rather than as banditos…kitty is a tad stuck up.

Why do I have to dress them up as something they already are?

One year I was in New Orleans for the Mardi Gras. I saw a fantastic constume at the parade that took little effort and got lots of laughs. Little Yorkie with small police officer hat walking ahead of and “pulling” his huge, burly prisoner by a “chain.” The prisoner, his human, wore a black and white striped prison uniform. They were attached by a chain made of aluminum foil, intricately linked. The human play-acted and made like he was really being yanked along. One of the greatest costumes ever.

This weekend I saw a darling little cowgirl costume complete with a white cowgirl hat and white fringe on the red bandana pattern skirt. It would fit my cute sassy, blue speckled young Irish Jack Russell and BlueHeeler mix perfectly for she is truly Annie Oakley reincarnated!!!
