Vick Jerseys Being Used To Clean Dog And Cat Shelter

Vick jerseyThe Atlanta Humane Society has been receiving a lot of donations from across the nation in the past few weeks.

No, it’s not money, but it’s something they definitely have been getting a lot of use out of. They have been receiving Michael Vick jerseys.

The animal shelter is putting Vick’s jerseys to good use in the dog house.

When Atlanta Humane Society employees first saw the jerseys, they wondered first of all why people were sending these to them, and then what they would do with them. But then more and more Vick jerseys were being donated to the shelter. People wanted to make a horrible situation into something that could help the animals at the facility.

How are Michael Vick jerseys being used at the shelter?

They decided to treat them like any other donation like a shirt or towel that they get from people. Normally, they use donated shirts and towels to clean kennels, for bedding, and other helpful uses around the facility. So, yes, Vick’s jerseys are being used to clean kennels.

“We’re not showing any favoritism to these jerseys, they go into our general rotation of towels,” Smith [an Atlanta Humane Society employee] said.

One dog is even using a Vick jersey as a pillow (drool all over that jersey, Spot — you have permission to rip it up too).

Volunteers and employees at the Atlanta Humane Society said that as long as the jerseys are being used for good, then that’s fine. If they are being used to make the dogs more comfortable and cozy or to clean up after them, then that’s great as well.

The Atlanta Humane Society said that the donated jerseys mean a whole lot more to all of the people at the shelter than to the dogs. The dogs just simply enjoy all the attention from the people stopping by to say hello.

This story gets worse with each passing day, with the latest I’ve heard being that two of Vick’s co-conspirators/associates are pleading guilty and prepared to testify that Vick himself actively participated in the murder of dogs who had lost in the ring. I’d like to see him both do jail time and be banned from the NFL for life in the end, but for now, good to see that the public is sending his merchandise to a worthy cause where it will be put to better use, versus just setting his jerseys aflame.

So very symbolic, functional, and expresses my sentiments regarding Vick in so many ways! Thanks to all of you who are sending jerseys to the shelter.

Very sorry, this is totally off topic. I am locked out of Itchmo forums AGAIN! It doesn’t like my password any longer.
I cannot reply, post, or even send a personal message. I asked to have my password sent to me email, 3 times, the dialog box said it was being sent to me, hours ago. I have not received it yet. I can find no way to email the admin on the Itchmo home page (no icon to email admin as there used to be). I have used two different browsers and cannot make contact with either one.
The last time I was locked out, I was told they couldn’t fix it, it must be my fault and my Firefox browser, so I used Internet explorer. Now I am locked out with both of them. I tried to register as a new user, and it won’t accept that because my email address is being used, it says.

The last time I was locked out, I sent a personal message, but now I cannot even do that. All I can get is a profile of a member, not way to send a message.
I have had big problems with my Fancy Feast, and now no one will eat any flavors at all, nor anything else, and I have a crf cat that MUST eat canned food only. I really would like access to Itchmo.

ITCHMO ADMIN: The forums should be working now. We were moving it to a new server. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you have any technical support issues, please email us at the tips address as well (it’s at the top of the page).

BW, will your crf kitty eat meat baby foods? gerbers and beachnut stages one chicken or turkey are what my seniors would eat when they didn’t feel well enough for their regular food. you can also water it down a bit for even more moisture for a crf kitty.

MICHAEL VICK IS WORSE THAN A DIRTY DOG, HOW IRONIC THAT HIS JERSEYS ARE BEING USED TO CLEAN DIRTY KENNELS!

bw, my wife just got approval. The big P, owners of FF, are sending her a UPS call tag to have our cans of FF send directly to the lab for testing. She didn’t trust sending to the big P. She mailed Itchmo, because we can’t get into the forums either. We have a weird e-mail that belongs to her job. You can reach her at arlowoody(at)mail(dot)com.

  7. Maria says:

Roberto P: What variety (varieties) of Fancy Feast were you feeding? I ask because that’s all my cats will eat. The ones I’ve heard people were having problems with are the Elegant Medley varieties, the varieties with chunks or gravy, and the ocean fish/seafood ones. Also, a month or so ago someone posted a complaint about cans manufactured in plant 1160, which I believe is in Wisconsin. If you read this, please let me know what FF you were feeding, and what symptoms your cats are experiencing. Thanks.

  8. Roberto P. says:

Maria - it was EM. Please e-mail above. Plant 1160 or 1162 is the code we are dealing with. Just replace (at) with @ and (dot) with . Anyone with trouble with the big P, e-mail us. Sorry our state has no protection against SLAPP lawsuits. And we have been threatened.

There’s a lot of confusion still on what’s going on. The deadline for a plea agreement was supposedly Friday morning [yesterday], which is when his two pals made theirs. A third had already done so some weeks ago. And under their pleas, they have agreed to testify against Vick. But word is that his lawyers are still working out a deal, maybe to be announced on Monday. Except others say there is no deal being worked on. If he and his lawyers do not work out a plea agreement, more federal charges would be filed against him. Racketeering, for one. His involvement in gambling is a violation of NFL rules and could get him banned for life. A man in SC was convicted in a dog fighting ring and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Virginia, where the ‘kennel’ is located, is planning on trying him on several charges, in addition to the federal charges he faces. So his problems may just be starting.

For the crf cat - there’s also a yahoo crf group that has been knowledgeable and full of kind folks.

About the Jerseys. Creative and I love it. I bet the cats out there would also contribute and extra hairball or two for the cause in support of the canines out there.

  11. Diane says:

I thought it wasn’t safe to give baby food to cats because it has onion in it?

Back to the original topic, very symbolic and gratifying.

  12. Kathy says:

I wonder if those jerseys could be shredded into cat litter?

  13. wescott20 says:

Diane, about babyfood…there are versions that don’t have onion…the ham, lamb, chicken, beef and turkey (Gerber’s). Just make sure the label has no onions…try to avoid the dinners, and go for the pure meat stage ones. That stuff can be a lifesaver…often when a sick cat will eat nothing else, it’s a good way to get some nourishment into their system. It really helped when my crf cat crashed. Now she’s eating regularly again, but she lived on baby food for a few months when she was really ill.

  14. straybaby says:

i should have clarified why i said stages one :) gerber and beechnut stages one are onion free and their stages 2 may also be. meats in juice or meats in gravy. but the meats in gravy contain some corn starch, so not sure i would use them these days!

What do you all want done with Vick.
The man has done his time and now that he is done that isn’t enough.
There is another man (Donte Stallworth) killed another person and know one seems to care about his 30 days he recieved.
Grow the Hell up and let people better themselves.
