Virginia Commonwealth Attorney Gerald Poindexter said that “yes, indeed, we will prosecute” Vick and three other co-defendants on possible animal cruelty and dogfighting charges.
Because of Phillips and Peace’s guilty pleas today, Poindexter said the state now has admissions and evidence of what was done on Vick’s property. Now the state can go forward with the prosecution.
Poindexter stated he is looking at two felony counts - dogfighting and killing of a companion animal. The maximum sentence in Virginia for each charge is five years.
The Surry Grand Jury meets on September 24, but Poindexter will wait on evidence from federal officials to make the complete case. He said indictments may come after September.
