A woman who has been accused of stabbing her ex-husband’s dog 27 times last year during an argument will be going on trial in August for cruelty to an animal. The dog was so badly injured that she had to be euthanized.
Prosecutors are seeking an 8-year prison sentence. The charge has been bumped up to a third degree felony which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison because a deadly weapon, a knife, was used. The woman’s lawyer says that “eight years in the state penitentiary for this crime is extreme to me.”
