Val, Thanks so much for the recipe. This is something I think I could actually DO.
And I have a crock pot. The WP article is great!

Itchmo ~

Most excellent article that you found here and YES I hope the story stays alive.

Today it was hard to believe how many retailers didn't know about the recall/withdrawal of product.

You are doing a great job journalistically about this all and your blogs are always insightful - even your silly pictures. Thanks for your excellence :)

Re: the canned food recipe posted: Make sure your dogs are getting more variety than just chicken. Also, keep the guts IN! dogs need the organ meat too, much more so than they need barley or veggies.

Indeed the blogosphere is howling. Let's just make sure it stays that way. This CANNOT be swept under the rug.

The Washington Post article was good, guts indeed!
For those that want to know what to make in place of canned food for their dogs. I use a recipe from a Greyhound rescue site. It's been so long I can't recall where I found it! I do not use canned for my dogs at all anymore. The smell of the canned is enough to gag ya'!
Pretty simple though, take about 5lbs chicken whole or parts, skinned or not, put it in the crock pot cover with water and cook for 20 hours, add veggies and barley the last few hours. Stir and break up the chicken parts from time to time. No need to de-bone anything, the bones mush up in your fingers!
Anyway my dogs love mom's home made "canned" there are no guts, all human grade food and I feel good knowing exactly what is in it. I freeze containers with enough for 3 days in each. Thaw as needed.
Feel free to post elsewhere, it's no secret!
